Hello, and thank you for joining me for this devotional.
Lamentations chapter 3, verses 22 and 23, says in the New King James Version:
“Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
These words were written in the midst of sorrow. Jerusalem had fallen, and the book of Lamentations describes the grief of a devastated people. Yet even there, the writer finds a reason for hope: God’s compassion had not failed.
Their hope did not come from their own strength or from everything suddenly getting better. It came from the faithfulness of God.
That helps us understand what it means that His compassions are new every morning. A new day does not guarantee that yesterday’s problems have disappeared. You may still wake up carrying grief, facing a difficult decision, or dealing with the consequences of something you regret. But those burdens do not mean God has stopped being compassionate.
If yesterday included sin, turn back to Him in repentance. If it included sorrow, bring that sorrow to Him in prayer. His mercy gives us reason to seek Him again.
The verses that follow speak about hoping in the Lord and waiting for Him. Sometimes faithfulness means continuing to trust God while the circumstances remain difficult.
So whatever you are facing, take a moment to remember this: you can turn to God with hope, because His compassion has not failed.
“Great is Your faithfulness” was spoken in the middle of suffering. We can remember those words in our own difficult moments, too.
As you go through your week, let God’s faithfulness give you a reason to keep seeking Him. Thank you for listening.
