Jim Coehoorn, minister at Elkhorn Church of Christ Meet our minister

Jim Coehoorn

Part of the congregation since its beginning. Serving through Bible teaching, preaching, and ministry to younger generations.

Jim and his wife, Jo Ann, have been part of Elkhorn Church of Christ since the congregation began in 1980. Before beginning his ministry work in 1989, Jim worked as a carpenter, farmer, salesman, and manager.

His early ministry included serving as a Bible teacher and fill-in preacher. With encouragement and mentoring from Monroe Hawley and Keith Barclay, he went on to preach full-time.

A heart for younger generations

Working with children and young people has been a significant part of Jim’s ministry. He helped develop the congregation’s Vacation Bible School program and has served as a counselor and director at Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp.

His involvement with the camp has also included decades on its board of directors and 15 years as board president.

Recognition for service

In 2026, Jim received the Minister’s Heart Award at York University’s Equip Conference in recognition of his work in ministry.

Jacob Coehoorn Congregational singing & audiovisual support

Jacob Coehoorn

Serving our congregation through song, behind-the-scenes support, and ministry to young people.

Jacob helps lead congregational singing at Elkhorn Church of Christ and assists with the projector and audiovisual equipment used during our gatherings. These roles help the congregation follow along and participate in worship.

Working with young people

Jacob’s work also includes Christian education and youth camp ministry. He works in school administration at Mt. Zion Christian School in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

At Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp, he has served as Intermediate Camp director. Camp records list him in that role in 2021 and again for the 2026 session, which served students entering seventh through tenth grade.

Through his involvement in the congregation, Christian education, and camp, Jacob contributes to opportunities for young people to learn and grow in faith.

School role listed in Jacob’s public professional profile. Camp involvement documented by Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp and its 2021 camp archive.

Clothing outreach

Sue Richards

Helping our congregation care for neighbors through clothing and household giveaways since 1996.

Sue’s involvement in clothing outreach began with an idea for a church rummage sale. Instead of selling the donated items, the congregation decided it could help more people by giving them away. Since 1996, Sue has helped coordinate that work of sharing practical essentials with neighbors in need.

She helps organize giveaways, coordinate donations, and connect people with available clothing and household items. Her approach reflects a simple conviction: everyone can face difficult times, and the congregation is here to help.

Through years of organizing and serving, Sue has helped make this outreach a continuing part of the congregation’s care for the community.
